I am the J.Y. Pillay Professor of Social Sciences at Yale-NUS College and a professor in the Department of Economics at the National University of Singapore.

Presently, I am serving as the Director for the Division of Social Sciences at Yale-NUS. I am also a research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London, UK.

My research interests lie in the fields of economic and financial history and international trade and finance.
